The spread looks wide, but you are not paying for the penguins. Gypsy Cove is free. You are paying for the ride, the time, the guide and, at the farm beaches, the landowner's charge.
What does $40 buy?
The cheapest fare buys you one hour. You stop for ten minutes at the Lady Elizabeth wreck and five at a totem pole, then spend thirty-five minutes at a gentoo colony. The colony's admission fee and your transport are in the fare, and groups cap at twelve.

Why does a private day cost more?
