Falkland Islands Map: Where the Beaches Are and Where Tours Meet
The Falklands are not one site but a spread of beaches, a lighthouse, a farm and a king colony, all reached from one jetty in Stanley. Here is how the visitor sites fit together, how far each one is, and where the Stanley penguin tours meet you.
How the islands' visitor sites are laid out
Picture Stanley on the east coast of East Falkland, with the jetty on its harbour. Everything you can reach on a port day fans out from that one point. Beyond the town, you can sort it into three zones by distance.
The closest is the Cape Pembroke peninsula, just east of town, with Gypsy Cove, Yorke Bay and the lighthouse. Next is the airport road southwest, with Fitzroy Farm and its beaches. Furthest is Volunteer Point, in the northeast, beyond Johnson's Harbour. Your tour length tells you which zone you are going to.
Stanley and the jetty
You start at the Jetty Visitor Centre. Cruise tenders tie up at pontoons directly in front of it, and nearly every tour meets you there. If your ship uses the floating dock, a short courtesy bus brings you into town.
From the jetty, Ross Road runs along the waterfront. You can walk to Christ Church Cathedral, the Whalebone Arch, the Historic Dockyard Museum and the Liberation Memorial without a vehicle. The wreck of the Lady Elizabeth lies in Whalebone Cove, in sight of the shore.
Gypsy Cove, Yorke Bay and Cape Pembroke
Gypsy Cove lies about 6.5 km from Stanley, in the Cape Pembroke peninsula nature reserve. You can walk there, or take one of the small buses that run on busy cruise days. The reserve is open at all times.
Yorke Bay is the gentoo beach of the same short tours, and it is 6.5 km out too. Both beaches were cleared of mines last, in 2020. Further along the peninsula, Cape Pembroke Lighthouse stands at the easternmost point of the islands, about seven miles east of Stanley.
This zone is where the short tours go. You can see it in two and a half to five hours, so it suits almost any port call.
Fitzroy Farm: Bertha's Beach and Kelp Point
Head southwest on the airport road and you reach Fitzroy Farm. Mount Pleasant Airport lies about 52 km from Stanley, roughly an hour by road. Bertha's Beach is about 8 km southeast of the airport, on the farm.
Kelp Point, also called Whale Point for the whale bones on its beach, is on the same farm. You reach it by road and then off-road in a 4x4. Both beaches are private land, and the tours that go there include the landowner’s charge in your fare. Plan on four hours or more away from the ship.
Volunteer Point and Johnson's Harbour
Volunteer Point is in the northeast of East Falkland, on Johnson's Harbour Farm. A private road runs from Johnson's Harbour to Volunteer House, and you need the landowner’s permission to use it. The last part of the journey is off-road.
That is why Volunteer Point takes a full day. The tour runs six hours twenty from the jetty and back, with two hours at the king colony. You leave an hour after your ship arrives, so check your call is long enough before you book.
Where the tours actually meet
Almost every tour meets you at the jetty, and the details tell you whom to look for. The 1982 memorials day and the Whale Point day both give Mount Pleasant Airport as their start, so confirm your pickup with the operator before you pay.

If you are coming off a ship, give your operator the ship’s name and tender times when you book. You then walk off the pontoon and straight to your guide.

Which part of the map fits your port call
If you have three hours, stay on the Cape Pembroke peninsula. A shared tour to Yorke Bay and Gypsy Cove has you back in under three hours, with time for the waterfront.
If you have five or six hours, you can reach Fitzroy Farm. Choose Bertha's Beach for gentoos on white sand, or Kelp Point for elephant seals as well. If you have a full day and your call falls on a visiting day, go to Volunteer Point for the kings.
